Digital Forensics Scenario: The president of a company that helps the families of deceased people settle life insurance claims receives a call that the identity of their deceased grandfather was being used by someone to open and charge credit accounts, with the identity theft occurring shortly after the claim was handled by his company. Two more similar calls come into the company. After talking to personnel in his company, it was identified that one person had handled all the claims and lived at an address at which items bought with the fraudulent credit cards were sent. Currently, the suspect employee has left for the a day of training off site, leaving her personal Ipad plugged into the corporate-owned computer and you have been called to respond to the concern. First, imagine that you are an employee of the company, then think about if you were a detective called to the business: (You are not limited to these questions!) 1.What are your priorities in your response (corporate liability? Catching the offender? Limiting any future damage/crimes?) 2.What are your limitations in searching, differing by your position? Will your authority to search the corporate-owned desk top computer (and the relevant corporate network) be different from your legal authority to search the Ipad? 3.Other than laws, what other sources may you consider looking at in order to make your decision to search or not search? 4.If you do or do not “search” the computer to any extent, tell me why or why not you do so, based on the legal limitations for each sector. 2 pages, 2 APA references
