There are five different types of sampling techniques discussed: simple random sampling, cluster sampling, stratified sampling, convenience sampling, and systematic sampling. The simple random sampling technique is the selection of the individuals according to no specified sampling method, all the individuals have the same probability of being part of the selected sample. This technique is said to have lowest risk of bias, as it removes any possible biases that would result from the specific selection of some of the individuals. It is not always applicable, nor practical, to use a simple random sampling technique because of the area of the sample being taken might be small enough to have a bias opinion. When simple random technique is not feasible, researchers have developed alternative sampling methods in which specific individuals are targeted to form part of the sample. The first of such practices is cluster sampling this is where the population is divided into different groups or clusters, and all the individuals of such group are then part of each of the samples. The classification of individuals in one or other group depends on a specific feature or characteristic, such as their sex. Stratified sampling is a like the cluster method where the population is divided into more groups that gradually change one of the characteristics. Stratified sampling would be used to separate the group into different groups according to their different ages. Systematic sampling refers to the process through which individuals follow a well-defined, systematic method, this method would apply to the selection of one individual every 10-20 people. This sampling method is especially useful in a population formed by very similar individuals. Convenience sampling is the process through which the researcher searches explicitly for those individuals of the community that present a predefined characteristic or feature.
