Written report. You are to imagine that you are part of a junior engineering

team assigned by the management of an engineering firm to produce a report discussing the implementation plan for a

proposed project. In your groups you will need to do the following:

1. Select an engineering based project (either an existing one or one created by you).

2. Evaluate current industry best practices as they relate to organisational and project management in medium

and large scale engineering enterprises.

3. Investigate the process and importance of the leadership function in relation to the management of

engineering projects within an organisation.

4. Research new engineering and project management approaches and reflect critically on their significance to

engineering practice.

5. Prepare the following:

  • A full scope (review the project charter document on blackboard as a starting point)
  • A complete work breakdown structure (WBS) including cost and duration estimates for all work packages
  • A Gantt chart identifying task interdependencies and milestones
  • A complete PERT chart with a clear indication of the critical path and possible slack/float times.
  • 6. Provide recommendations for this case study as informed by your research into industry best practice (in

    particular, using project management tools/processes)

    7. Write a 15 to 20 page report addressed to the management of the Engineering firm according to the following

    structure:

  • Section 1: Introduction
  • Section 2: Clear description of the project
  • Section 3: Analysis of charts
  • Section 4: Challenges faced in producing the required information and how you have overcome them;
  • Section 5: Discussion of current industry best practices, and new engineering and project management
  • approaches

  • Section 6: Conclusion and recommendations
  • Appendices that include the following deliverables: WBS, Gantt and PERT charts and scope/other
  • documents used.

    In preparing for this assignment, you will need to:

    1. research what sustainability and internationalisation means to this organisation and how they are managing

    these aspects of business,

    2. find out about the organisation’s cross cultural awareness policies (including indigenous) and their possible

    impact on management processes,

    3. discuss the assessments with that person in terms of the company’s strengths and weaknesses,

    4. write a summary report interpreting these assessments and suggest how the organisation could improve its

    management principles, practices and performance in these terms,

    5. include the main challenges faced in producing the requirements, how you overcame them and lessons learnt

    in the process,

    6. research industry best practice in relation to management practices and provide recommendations in relation

    to the case study used in this assignment, and

    7. write a 15 to 20 page report addressed to the management of the Engineering firm which has the following:

  • Section 3: Survey results
  • Section 4: Analysis of the organisation’s cross cultural awareness policies and impacts on management
  • processes
