COLLAPSE

Week 1: Mission, Vision and Academic Professional Goals

After researching several Master of Science in Nursing Programs (MSN), Walden University Program seems to fit my lifestyle, which is very complex at the moment. I have just taken on a new role as Director of Nursing. The program is completely online which allows me to be flexible with my scheduling, work and family. Listening to the testimonies of the faculty and current students sealed the deal for me heir excitement made me feel a sense of pride, and that I will be treated as an individual rather than a number.

Waldens Core Values and Mission

Waldens core values: Quality, Integrity, is why I chose the institution, I have found individuals to be family oriented and student centered. ” Walden provides a diverse community of career Professionals allowing you the opportunity to transform themselves as Scholar Practioners” In which I hope to become so that I may effect a positive change in my community”. (Walden University, 2011)

Professional Goal

With health care in a crisis; and insurance premiums skyrocketing, as a nurse practioner, my goal is to be able to give back to the community by opening a clinic providing care to those individuals who neglect to go to the doctor because they cannot afford to. According to Waldens school of nursing I hope to gain critical thinking skills, and the ability to implement evidence base practices as health care continues to evolve, which allows one to transform society improving the quality of care. (Walden University, 2011).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2
Professional development plan involves documentation of required skills, competency
developments, goals, and objectives of a staff member that the individual is needed to
accomplish to promote career development and continues improvement. The document is created
by the supervisor or manager working closely with the employees to evaluate the necessary
resources and skills to support the development and improvement of company’s need and staff’s
career objectives. The purposes of this essay is to provides a detailed professional development
plan ("Professional Development Plan | Human Resources," 2017).
A nursing career is a critical activity that involves providing basic health services to
human beings. Good health is a basic need for an individual and as a nurse having the necessarily
required competencies is vital. My goals as a nurse are to acquire the highest level of
competence relating to my career after my academic learning in the Walden University. After
learning the relevant skills in the nursing career, I aim at delivering the best services to the
community by offering the best services. I also aim at advancing my study further by taking a
master program in the university. It will help me advance my knowledge on my career hence
offering more advanced services. I always view learning as a long life process that requires
continuous improvement.
Professional and Academic Background.
As a student of Weldon university undertaking Degree in nursing, I have gained many
skills related to my career. I have gained vast knowledge related to human body, lab
experiments, diseases, diagnosis, how to handle patients among others. Besides that, I have
completed my attachment program in a public hospital which has helped me gained direct
experience to patients. However, I have some areas I need to improve on one of them being
having the necessary etiquette to handle the patients. The second challenge is that I perform well

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 3
in theories as compared to practical. I need to improve on my practices. I am committed to
succeeding in my nursing career by investing my time in learning.
Professional Goals.
My primary purpose in the nursing career is gaining the best skills that will help me solve
the health problems in the community. I chose the university because of its quality education
services as it is stated in the mission of the institution. Also, the school is well known for
producing quality nurses and doctors (ProfessionalDevelopment.pdf, 2017). The university has a
flexible learning system that will help me gain all that its required to be a competent physician
precisely.
Course Orientation
Walden University is a school of higher learning that provides quality education to its
students. The university aims at providing equal opportunities to all people in its educational
services. Through completing my degree program, I will be able to gain the relevant skills and
ability to serve my community. To become a competent nurse is one of my goal that I work hard
toward achieving it.
The mission statement of the university states “that the school provides a diverse
community of career with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so
that they can effect positive social change.” (Walden University, 2017). It explains how the
institution is motivated and determined to offering equal opportunities in its activities, programs
and education services per the country laws. The statement is in line with my career goal since it
is offering me equal opportunity to learn my career The university also is committed to providing
quality education which I consider it as an excellent tool for me to acquire the best competency
in nursing.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 4

Practicum Goals
My education and research career have molded me to align my dream career. Through
effective learning and research from the university, I feel that I will become a competent
physician who can provide solutions to some health problems in the community. I will gain skills
in carrying out health research and experiments on the major problems in the community. Also
the research I conducted about the viral diseases molded my career to another level. Thirdly, the
workshop that I attend about the relation of health issues on community development contributes
towards the attainment of my career goals. Besides that, I had volunteered in a community
development program that was educating people on healthy living to avoid lifestyle diseases
such as diabetes.
The library of Walden University is well equipped with the necessary learning book
relating to my career. I always take time to go the university to do further research on the
information relating to my career. Also, the university has an online library where the student
can access E-books online. It has contributed a lot toward attainment of my career.
Academic and Research Strengths and Weakness
In my education program, I have identified some of my strengths being passion, fast
learning ability, hard work, best learning institution, and learning program. Passion and can read
and understand things quickly, and this stands out to be one of my major strength. Walden
institution is another factor that contributes to my strengths in the career (Goestenkors & Day,
2012). The university has an excellent learning system equipped with relevant learning materials.
My weaknesses are that I am not good when it comes to practical sessions. Although I am good

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 5
in theory studies, practical sessions seem to be a challenge to me. Also, I always take other
peoples problem as mine, and this has been conflicting with my career program.

Plan of Study and Program of Study Form
My primary goal of being at Walden University is to become a competent practitioner. I
am committed to using all the important routes that will help me gain the highest level of
competency in my career. I also plan to continue my learning program to masters level to learn
more advanced skills and knowledge in my career (ProfessionalDevelopment.pdf, 2017). I also
expect to be participating in activities like training workshops, voluntary health works, research
among others that will help me grow my careers. I also plan to work to the best of my
community as a whole by providing professional health services and try to solve some of the
fundamental health problems in the community.
Summary
I conclusion, my nursing career goal is something that I value most. I term my career as a
calling or a talent that I need to implement by serving the community. My learning career at
Walden University has been gearing my dream toward coming true. The university has the best
education system that can make me attain my goals. I am also committed to doing research,
undertaking training programs, volunteering in health works among others to build my career.
On the issue of my weakness, I need to improve and also build on my strengths.
