Course Goals:
By the conclusion of this course, student will be able to:
- Using complex case studies, analyze the pharmacological properties of broad categories of drugs;
- Analyze the relationship between pharmacologic agents and physiologic/pathologic responses;
- Describe the motivations of patients in seeking prescriptions and the willingness to adhere to prescribed regimens;
- Determine the impact of herbal and alternative therapies on disease states and pharmacologic treatments;
- Safely and appropriately select pharmacologic agents for the management of patient health problems based on patient variations, the problem being managed, and cost effectiveness;
- Apply and integrate organizational, client centered, and culturally appropriate concepts in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of medication administration;
- Evaluate the role of the nurse in collaborating, consulting, and communicating with other health care professionals to manage and coordinate medication distribution during times of medication shortages
