Planning and time management are beneficial for all aspects of one’s life beyond just the classroom. One thing that I have found that works is getting a daily/weekly planner and writing all of my due dates for my assignments in it. I found that by having an overview of when things are due, it allows me to better manage my time and effectively work on assignments so that that are finished on time. Time management is crucial to online learning. Online learning is different in that though there are due dates for assignments, the reading and the bulk of the course is self-paced. This can lead to either not getting assignments done or rushing them if proper time management is not utilized. Another issue that can arise, as stated by a student in the Student Experience and Advice Video, is that because the discussions are online and not in person it can make it hard to decipher the tone of a writer (Laureate Education, 2012). For example, a person could post something that was written to be in a joking manner, however, when it is read by another the tone of the passage may be taken as rude or condescending. Effective use of technology is the most important aspect of online learning. The classroom and the university are brought to the individual via the computer and the internet. By having proper usage and knowing how to navigate not only the online university but as well as the offline computer programs can help ease the stress of being a student. I recently bought a new computer and there were many things that were different from my old computer. Had I not taken the time to get acquainted to these little intricate nuances, it would have made school more difficult.
