Hello,

Community policing, in my opinion, refers to a style of policing that requires officers to build bonds in the community by way of an increased presence in the community. Community policing requires more footwork in the community. Community policing is a concept that aims at increasing the presence of officers in neighborhoods while establishing sound relationships that can have positive effects in the community. Community policing requires interaction between officers and members of the community. Doing so will lead to stronger community bonds and public trust as it pertains to law enforcement should increase. According to, TeacherLaw.net, advantages of community policing include, but can not be limited to, the following:

1). Gives citizens more control over the quality of life in their community (LawTeacher, 2013)

2). Reduces fear in the community (LawTeacher, 2013)

Community policing aids in organizational improvement because it helps relieve tension that can exist within the department due to the tension that exists with the public. For example, racial issues that are related to the public, i.e., racial profiling, excessive use of force issues that underline race as the determining factor, and more can cause tension to exist between those of different races who work within departments. Community policing is a beneficial policing method. If used properly and accepted by community members beneficial result can be produced.
