play review 1

I have already done the play prompts, play find attached now she wants us to write into a play review. Must have at lest seen Peter Pan the movie to be able to reference it to the play review. Must have knowledge of Theater 101_I03 or similar. Needs to be very detailed.

Paragraph One – Talk about where and when the play was being held. Give title and author. You can comment a little on the theatre experience here. Or comment on the specific theatre and company where the play is being held.

Paragraph Two – Dive in and discuss what you think the theme was. What type of play is it (comedy/drama/musical/etc.)? Give examples as to why you think it is this type of play. Musicals are usually light, but not always. Don’t just give me the story. Try to include textbook information or other information learned in the course (no need to have bibliography).

Paragraph Three – Discuss the actors and the acting. Do not discuss them as the characters. Refer to textbook information about acting. Give overview. Then be specific and discuss two of them in detail. The question really is this: are they believable in the roles and why are they believable. Did they have any special things they had to do for the roles (singing, dancing, accents, makeup, etc.) Give examples of their believability. Lots of examples. Try to include textbook information or other information learned in the course (no need to have bibliography).

Paragraph Four – Discuss the theatre and the set and props. What type of theatre is it? Why do you think it is this type of theatre? What did the set look like? Was it realistic, representational, or what? Use what you have learned in the book. Give examples. Lots of examples. Try to include textbook information or other information learned in the course (no need to have bibliography).

Paragraph Five – Discuss the costumes and makeup. Discuss in detail. The wrong thing to write is “the costumes were representational of the period”. That tells me nothing. Pretend I have never seen the show and know nothing about it, give me descriptions. Lots of descriptions. Again, use what you have learned in the course.

Paragraph Six – Discuss the lighting and sound. Discuss in detail. Give examples. (Same guidelines as above).

Paragraph Seven – Give some final thoughts. This is where your opinion can come into the picture. Did you like it? Did you not? Tell me why or why not. Would you recommend it to someone else?

Play reviews should be in normal font (12) and can be double-spaced but no penalty if not. Of course, if it is double-spaced, it should be much longer than 4 pages.
