week 2 study questions

Need at least 100 word response for each question

Question 1: In our readings, Cobb (2012) points out the definition of a team as defined in Harvard Business Review (HBR) (p. 115). The authors of the article in HBR “describe a team as a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, a common set of performance goals, and a common approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable (Cobb, 2012, p. 115).

From our readings, select one team characteristic described and why you believe that characteristic is important in a team setting in a project environment.

Question 2: Cobb (2012) share information on Tuckman and Jensen’s “stage model” of team development (p. 124-127). According to the authors, teams go through the various stages as the team develops. My experiences with team development have often followed this model of team development.

In the forming stage, everyone is excited to be a part of the project. As individuals become more familiar with the other team members, personalities emerge which can, at times, create a bit of conflict within team members (storming). As the team members continue to develop and get to know one another, there is acceptance in other team members strengths, weaknesses, and personality (norming). The team is starting to mesh and produce. As the project progresses and team members gain confidence in one another, the team begins to perform in a more productive manner (performing). This team dynamics are set; project work is performed in a successful manner. Finally, upon project completion, the team disbands with hopes of working together or not (adjourning)!

I’ve had great team experiences; I had some really bad ones as well. What have your team experiences been like? Please share a team experience and how your experience compare with the stages of development as described by Cobb.
